 Education plays a key role in shaping a child’s future. From the very beginning, when the child starts going to a school, the education given to him will affect his whole life. 

Though the giving and taking of knowledge is often undermined, there are various myths in the Indian education system that we need to highlight for the betterment of the children.

As a parent, we understand what exactly you want from your child’s school. You might wonder if your kid’s school is giving them the best possible start and you hope that they are using approaches to teaching and learning that are known to be the most effective. But most of the school makes fake promises and do not deliver what they claim, due to which the base of a child remains weak. 

Every single parent wants their child to excel in almost every possible field, be it in academics, sports, extra-curricular etc. As these all things shape the future of their child. Moreover, they are the important part of a child’soverall development. Just academic excellence is not the only important thing for the development. The school helps the child to bring the best out of him.

But there are few myths prevailing in the society:

·        Smaller class sizes increase learning for all students. It kind of feels true that reducing the number of students in a class would improve learning because there would be more time for one-on-one attention. However, the evidence shows that there isn’t a large positive impact until a class size is reduced to fewer than 20 (or even 15). However, the more important factor is the quality of the teaching as good teaching will be valuable for all students. And poor practice is not improved with a smaller number of students. 

·        Memorizing is equal to learning. This is something that is still being practiced in so many schools. The schools give special spotlight towards memorizing instead of practical learning experience.

·        The best thing for a struggling student is to repeat a school year. But the evidence strongly stats that repeating a year actually has a negative impact on learning as well as being very costly. The impacts are worse for primary students. Studies also suggest that students who repeat a year are more likely to drop out of school. The reasons may be that the student just gets ‘more of the same’ rather than additional support or a new approach and that the repeat of the year will have a negative effect on self confidence.

·        No career in arts & humanities. This myth has been prevailing in the society for so many years. Due to this, people believe that science is the most important subject for children and the school should only focus on the STEM education. (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math). According to this, these subjects play an extremely important role in shaping a child’s future. Presently, there is a need that people should understand the importance of choosing different subjects other than science.

·        A single assessment judges everyone fairly. In the Indian Education system, students are judged on one same task, which is unfair for everyone. This system says that the one who performed well is a bright student and the one who performed badly is a dull student. It is important that people realize that they cannot judge every single student on the basis of one same task.

Overall, the thing is that the Indian Education System needs a lot of improvement and luckily, the government has taken some decisions to improve the education system. So we can expect that these changes will help children in finding the right career for themselves.
